I always feel nice about volunteering with local organizations that help out those less blessed. One of the sites that I help out is a local food pantry. In many cases these types of facilities rely on churches plus town halls for their space as funds are limited plus they need discounted rent, and i understand this because they rely on donations of food plus money to keep them up plus running. The pantry where I volunteer honestly needs to reconsider the space that they use. It is strenuous to access by those who have any sort of physical limitations due to the staircases plus worst of all my associate and I have to repair people out of a small room that has no ventilation, however the room is no greater than a walk-in closet, has no windows plus only one means of escape should the need arise. I don’t even know that it is up to code as far as safety is upset. It is located in the basement of a church plus I guess they feel that it is what they could afford so they just make do, during the summer time months it can get so stuffy in there that the two hours seem to drag by. My associate and I brought in a small fan to help circulate the air however it just isn’t enough. I wish there was a way to install some sort of ventilation system that could draw out the stale air plus update it with new, however perhaps they should speak with the church council plus see if there is another room that is linked to the Heating & Air Conditioning system that my associate and I could use. It would really help the people coming to get food plus the volunteers feel better.
