Home automation helps with upkeep for two homes

The automation system includes sensors for moisture, smoke, movement and glass breakage

My husband and I own two homes. From November until sometime in April, we live along the southeastern coast of the country. We enjoy warm weather and sunshine and avoid the brutal cold and endless feet of snow up north. For the remaining six months, we reside in the northeastern area of the country, where we avoid the excessive heat and humidity down south. We’ve arranged our lives to enjoy the best weather in each location. However, maintaining two separate residences can be stressful and challenging. There is always the worry of some disaster going unnoticed and leading to excessive damage and expense. We are concerned about the furnace failing up north and pipes freezing. There is always the fear of a break-in or vandalism. We’ve found that the best solution to the protection and upkeep of the properties is a home automation system for each. Having everything centralized and accessible via an app on our phones is convenient and extremely helpful. From virtually anywhere, we are able to customize which lights are turned on and off and temperature settings. We can lock and unlock doors and watch real-time video from surveillance cameras. We receive notifications in the event of anyone entering the property, power failure or a severe temperature swing. The automation system includes sensors for moisture, smoke, movement and glass breakage. Along with reassuring us that everything is safe and secure at both homes, we can make adjustments so that a well-lit and comfortable environment is waiting for our arrival. The home automation systems have simplified the needs of the properties.
