We brought in a small fan to help circulate the air but it just isn’t enough.
I always feel good about volunteering with local organizations that help out those less fortunate. One of the places that I help out is a local food pantry. In many cases these types of facilities rely on churches and town halls for their space as funds are limited and they need discounted rent. I understand this because they rely on donations of food and money to keep them up and running. The pantry where I volunteer really needs to reconsider the space that they use. It is hard to access by those who have any sort of physical limitations due to the staircases and worst of all we have to service people out of a small room that has no ventilation. The room is no larger than a walk-in closet, has no windows and only one means of escape should the need arise. I don’t even know that it is up to code as far as safety is concerned. It is located in the basement of a church and I guess they feel that it is what they could afford so they just make do. During the summer months it can get so stuffy in there that the two hours seem to drag by. We brought in a small fan to help circulate the air but it just isn’t enough. I wish there was a way to install some sort of ventilation system that could draw out the stale air and replace it with new. Perhaps they should speak with the church council and see if there is another room that is connected to the HVAC system that we could use. It would certainly help the people coming to get food and the volunteers feel better.
